Cavities in primary (baby) teeth can lead to pain, infection, and premature tooth loss if left untreated, potentially affecting the eruption and alignment of permanent teeth. Children’s fillings and root canal treatment are essential for treating cavities and preventing further spread of bacteria and germs to the permanent teeth. In some cases, extraction of hopeless primary teeth is unavoidable. Following extraction, the placement of a space maintainer is crucial to prevent neighboring teeth from shifting into the empty space, thereby preserving proper alignment and allowing permanent teeth to erupt correctly.
